I love to read about triumphant stories because it is easy to assume historical or famous people who’ve made a positive impact on the world by following their passion have walked an easy path.

Most of the time, this isn’t the case.

It is the reason why I’ve brought many stories of healing through the interviews I’ve shared with you over the past several years. We can gain so much by learning the stories of others. I think this triumphant spirit can be tapped into when we’re feeling defeated. We can all borrow strength from our predecessors. We can learn so much from history. In times when the world was primitive these people overcame a lot and left remarkable legacies that we are still utilizing today.

What a miracle the invention of the light bulb is but when you read that Edison failed anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 times in order to get it right, I’m so thankful he didn’t give up. Would you have given up after the first handful of failures? I’m not sure if I would have or not but his story sure inspires me to try, try again! How about you?

Key to your success, continued...

Are you or do you know someone who is an adult and still plays the blame game? You know, it’s so and so’s fault for my misery! It is really difficult to be in the sidelines of this type of person; they have an external locus of control and until the figure out that they are responsible for their own destiny, they will continue to wallow in dysfunction.

I am a person who feels accountable for everything and everyone in my circle; it is an internal locus of control. I have to remind myself of the Serenity Prayer often. I must get out of my own way and surrender to the Universe. To me this means manage what I am responsible for, to the best of my ability, and then leave the rest for God to work out since I can’t control things beyond my reach (like controlling the actions of others). It is a hard pill to swallow if you are a nurturer like me. But, the reality is, my perspective is self-sabotaging. I have to learn to appreciate my essence of accountability but in order for me to be realistic, I must be logical about what I have control over.

Life is truly a roller coaster and although we may not feel we can control the actually ride we’re buckled onto, we did get to choose the roller coaster at the park. We have a choice on how we respond to life circumstance; we can be flexible, positive and have some fun or fight the process entirely. What is your stance? Let me know!

Living your truth, continued...

Oprah inspired the article, Living Your Truth, along with Deepak's insight from their latest 21-Day Meditation series, Finding your flow. I listened to the first 3 days and, so far, I am happy to be able to participate.

I love the analogy of the garden that I use in the article. I plant a garden most every summer and most years I get a lot of vegetables from it. The year my dad died, my heart and soul wasn't really into the work that it takes to get a wealthy abundance from it. It was practically barren that year even though I took the time to plant.

Why, because I didn't work the soil enough or go out there and pull the weeds often or as needed. I mostly depended on Mother Nature to water it and this wasn't enough. At this time, my heart was hurting or as I said in the article, my light was dull. My spirit didn't seem to be present in my life. Living in the moment hurt too much. It took time for me to gather my courage and face this pain but once I was able to do this or weed my garden, so to speak, I started to see growth again.

Life can be daunting when we are not pushing back and focusing on the the good stuff. We all have to remember it comes down to a choice of what we want to pay attention to; when we fuel negativity it gets bigger, when we fuel positivity it grows.

Which are your fueling? Is it making your light brighter or dowsing it? Leave me a note an let's talk about it.

Tapping into your flow, continued...

Today I visited Zogreo Church in Monroe, Michigan where I witnessed a person who was genuinely in his flow; Bishop Robert Shackleford.

This gentleman preached from his heart. His sermon was so full of energy, it felt like he raised the roof off of the church. Although he tried to be aware of the time, I think he could lose himself praising the name of the Lord; I can’t think of a better thing to lose yourself in, can you?

I could feel his passion and I like what he conveyed.

When he is in his flow he not only lifts his spirit but he lifts the spirit of others. As he embraces his gift from God, he is helping the world to become a better place. It’s pretty cool.

I think anytime you tap into your flow you are making the world a better place. Why? Because your flow enables your best self to surface and if you’re at your best, you are going to interface in a healthy way with others. It creates a pass it forward type karma.

So, if you’re feeling overly stressed all you need to do is tap into your flow. Give it a shot and then let me know what activity enables you to do this. I’m curious.

I am really amazed by the work of an art therapist and I can’t wait until I’m out in the field doing this work. Art has been medicine for me since as far back as I can remember. I love to mentor and help people so I feel like I will finally be fulfilling my soul work although I’m embarking on this adventure a bit late in my life. It took me until my early forties to finally gather enough courage to change career choices. The artist in me has been aching to get out!

I’m hopeful to get accepted into a doctorate program for Art Therapy once I finish my Master’s in mental health counseling. I still have a long road ahead of me but because I am really interested and passionate about it, it is actually going by faster than I would have thought. I am learning that there really is something in the journey. If I don’t look at it this way, it would be torturous since the destination is still very far on the horizon.

I can’t wait to be able to look at someone’s drawing and be able to get some insight about the person’s psyche that drew it. It is crazy that there is really rhyme or reason to this type of interpretation. As I learn about it, I’ll share it with you.

Hopefully you’ll gain some insight that may benefit you somewhere in your life!

Does creativity have a place in your life right now? I bet you, even if you don’t believe it does, if we talked I could prove to you that you are creative. What do you think?
