My blog, Inspirations by Kathryn J. Raths includes posts from 2009 to 2016 that were an extension of my Healthy Living Examiner column which has been closed. However, the articles are being revamped as an extension of Kathryn J. Raths.com, which is in the making! The image is a self-portrait I drew in oil pastels; the woods gift me a deep connection with nature and safety!

First, the pizza photo might look good but it seem more like I was grazing in a meadow as apposed to eating pizza. I'm all about getting healthy but I'm not really embracing the pizza as shown above!
I'm always willing to trying a meditation challenge, especially when it is presented by 2 of my favorite people, Dr. Oz & Deepak Chopra. The affirmation/questions he is posing during the meditation is really interesting and inspiring. I'm curious to see what is brought forward when I give this a shot.
On the Dr. Oz show, they spend only about 3 minutes doing this although, I must spend more time getting to a relaxing state in order to fully embrace his words and then see if I'm open to a natural response.
It seems, as of late, I've been putting my meditations low on the list of priorities and therefore I haven't been doing them very often. I really have to make an effort because, much like Deepak, I believe in the power of meditation.
What are your beliefs? What works for you? Drop me a comment, I'm curious.

I'm at the close of day 12 of my 30 day detox challenge. It seems like the detox has stolen the vibrancy of my life. Don't get me wrong, I like fish and chicken but it is tough to eat this many times a week when I'm used to a variety of meats; lunch meat, steak, pork etc. I feel like I'm on a continuous graze in a field.
On a positive note, I know this is all psychological at this point because I'm eating a lot, feeling full after meals and I'm still losing weight, 4 1/2 pounds to date. The detox promises up to 10 pounds of weight loss in 30 days. I've stuck closely to the diet so I'm curious to see what my sacrifice gifts me in the end.
Also, my stomach (which usually suffers from indigestion) is feeling skinny and healthy. I certainly owe this detox to my improved health.
I can't wait until day 31 when I can start introducing (1 at a time), dairy, eggs, sugar, red meat, pork and glutton back into my routine. My goal for this torture is to figure out the foods that trigger indigestion and eliminate them. The hope for a healthier 2013 is keeping me going.
How are you doing with your resolution this year? Are you raising your health bar? Leave me a note and tell me about it.

I have never detoxed in my life prior to this month. Sure I've cut sugar out for a time or red meat but I haven't overhauled my system, which this program claims to do. Today, I weigh 169 pounds. I seem to go up and down a few pounds but sticking close to this number normally. At my best weight, after crazy dieting, I was 156 pounds at one point last year. My peak weight, 183 pounds.
I've been sharing my health journey along the way in hopes to get feedback, pointers and inspire others with any success.
I have been working out every single day (averaging 1 hour) for over the past 3 plus months. This is working for me. Unfortunately, I'm still not satisfied with my diet. Yes, it has improved significantly but I'm still feeling like I have digestion problems (bloating at the top of my stomach) and since Dr. Junger's plan seems to focus on this area, it is the next challenge I'm embracing.
I believe this will overhaul my diet, allow me to drop a few pounds in a healthy way and gift me with some benefits of healthy digestion. Once I'm done, I'll report my results.
Wish me luck!
