Self-talk script, continued...

I am pretty good about pushing past the negative self-talk although, as of late, I’m having difficulty seeing beyond my “not so tone” areas of my body since I’ve gained weight. This is really what inspired my article; my effort to stay away from labels like I am fat, I am sick, I am broke, etc.

It is difficult to stay on track with healthy eating habits and work out routines during the holidays. It is cold, which makes it more challenging to find the motivation to get moving and all of this, of course, feeds the negative self-talk.

I would never tell a loved one he or she is fat so labeling myself as such is not okay. I realize we have to accept ourselves just as we are in order to stay on track. Life entails ups and downs and weight loss and gain is part of this shuffle. I’ll be heading into the new year focusing on what I want to achieve, living a healthy lifestyle and attending to myself with tendering loving care. This is how I interface with my loved ones and I’ve now added myself to this list!

What is your script? Do you have positive self-talk or are you hard on yourself? Leave me a note and tell me about it.

Author of Blind View Drive, continued...

Author Jerry Gufferd

Jerry Gufferd provided the below overview of his book, “In the same distended vein as acclaimed writers Charles Bukowski, Hunter S. Thompson, and Chuck Palahniuk, maverick author Jerry Gufferd delivers a compelling work of transgressive fiction that steps outside of convention to vividly depict the absurdities of life, challenging readers to discover—and question—the fallacies of the world we live in.

Based on extremely exaggerated events from Gufferd's life, Blind View Drive will push and pull you in unexpected directions and speak to those raw, gritty parts of yourself that you’ve worked so hard to keep hidden.”

Jerry’s target market, “People who enjoy dark comedy, transgressive fiction, and sharp-witted writing with an edge will enjoy my book. It is very philosophical in nature, so people who question societal norms and the fallacies of our world will dig it. From a therapy standpoint, anyone who has ever dealt with any form of abuse and has experienced an intense anger because of it will enjoy it as well.”

Does his book sound enticing? Here is an insert to help you decide, "It comes in waves. Inspiration, procrastination, anger, glee, enthusiasm, righteousness, sociopathology, reason, lack of it, weakness, wit, war, murder, etc. It all comes in waves. I don't know about you, but I can only identify the essence of a particular wave after it has already crashed upon my shores and pillaged my sandcastles, just like the last time. I always question where they came from, but never where they're going. It's much too hard to see with saltwater in your eyes and the lingering shock of crisp, cold water stinging your skin, until you get used to it and let the water see for you, while you become all-knowing in the safe haven of the center of a whirlpool, the altar of reality's organization. It is here where you can look down upon the compilation of your thoughts, moods, and moments in life, and see how it all comes together like a collage of logic and order. An amusement park with an owner, as opposed to chaos with a customer. It all makes sense in this split second between waves, and then "Crash!" Back to square one. None of it makes sense."
His 6-year book project was so therapeutic he’s working on his next novel!

This will be the 6th holiday season I’m going through without my father’s physical presence. It was really difficult at first but now I feel more in touch with him on a different level. It is hard to explain this connection but he is around me. The more I meditate, the more intuitive I feel and this allows me to sense spiritual presence.

Call me crazy or maybe it is wishful thinking but whatever it is, I’m grateful for it and I continue to work to heighten my senses even further.

This connection has helped me move past the heartache of loss. How are you coping with your loss?

Leave me a note and share.

My vision, continued...

Examiner article

I started screaming my dreams to the mountain tops a few years ago. It shouldn't be a secret. You should put it out there so support can rally to help you. You will not be able to reach your destiny without the help of others.

Do you have a problem saying what you want? If so, why? Are you afraid if you tell someone you might be held accountable to this plan? If this is the case, all the more reason to tell others. If it is fear holding you back, pray for courage, meditate for clarity, educate yourself so you can plan and strategize and then get out there and kick some butt!

Regret is not easy to live with, neither is sorrow. Figure out what you want and then go for it. Because, even if you fail, you'll be better for the journey!

Where are you in your quest? Mine is in the making; just a few short years and I'll be wrapping my arms around my dream.

Tell me about yours!

I always struggle with permitting myself real downtime. This mindset has forced a universal adjustment into my life. As I have written about previously, I’ve been coping through an illness, which stole my energy from me. I have woke up feeling tired before but in the past several months I had been crawling out of bed more tired than when I climbed into bed. Even though I had allotted the full 8-hours of sleep, it continuously felt like I was pulling all-nighters.

My diagnosis was mono. My doctor felt, because of my blood work, it was a “reactivation” in my system. I protested that I’d never had mono although she said that even though I was never diagnosed, most of us catch it at a younger age and it lives within our system much like chicken poxes.

I have never experienced this type of energy drain before. I kept pushing myself to meet my commitments but I did have to downsize my schedule. Sometimes we do not have a choice and this happens especially when warnings are ignored.

Deepak is correct, play and rest are not luxuries; they are necessary as healthy channels for renewal.

How do you achieve balance in work, play and rest? I would love to hear about it.

Dr. Carter says we get “duped by the reward system of our brain.”

Things that can make you happy based on the doctor’s recommendation:

  • ·     “Do little small things that can gain your control like cleaning up a mess; make your bed.
  • ·     There is enormous power in counting your blessings; log your gratitude. Please who are grateful are 25% happier!
  • ·     Eat good mood food like salmon, flaxseed or walnuts.”

If you want to change the world, starting with your own, it is really as simple as a smile. It truly is contagious!

What are you smiling about these days? Share!
