Thomas E. Pierce continued, “I have always been a very religious person. I have always believed in the afterlife but that does not mean that I did not have doubts at times. The events of the first year after the accident that I talk about in my book have removed all doubts forever. These events have continued to happen in my life and I am much stronger spiritually.”

He talked about coping, “My rock bottom was the day of the accident. The next day I realized that both of my wife and my daughter seemed to know something was going to happen and did things to prepare themselves and the family for what was coming. This made me realize that the accident was supposed to happen and that no one could have prevented it or made it any better. I realized that I was still here for a purpose. That purpose appears to be my book.”

His mission, “To help others who have experienced the loss of a loved one. When I open my email I never know if I am going to end up sharing tears with someone I have never met. The last page of my book contains my email address and many people who read my book after a tragic or sudden loss, have written me to tell me how much my book helped them. These emails made the book the most rewarding accomplishment of my entire life. They are my inspiration to get the book into the hands of others that it will help.”

Thomas shared words of advice, “Positive thoughts are the most powerful force we posses. With love all things are possible. Love never dies.  Our loved ones that have passed remain close to us forever. Opening yourself up to signs from lost loved ones will provide you with ways to go on with a happy and successful life. Tears are just our body’s way to allow us to cope with things that would otherwise be beyond our comprehension. We just have to let them be tears of joy, not sorrow; tears of laughter, not pain; tears of love, not grief. All the kindness a person puts out into the world works on the hearts and thoughts of mankind.”

Thomas closed, “When I heard that the Reservists who rescued us were going to receive medals, I knew I had to be there to thank them.  It was the first time I spoke in public after the accident. After that I received numerous requests to speak. I spoke at many award ceremonies for the girls and for the people who responded to the emergency calls during the accident. I have done numerous radio and TV interviews. ABC in Baltimore won an Emmy for their interview with me on the first anniversary of the accident. You can learn more and listen to me speak on my website: www.thelastrose.com.”

Pierce currently resides in Vineland , NJ , where he is able to support and participate in the lives of his surviving daughter and his two beautiful granddaughters.

The Hardcover book is available at Amazon.com.  It is also available as a Kindle book and a Nook book.

I had not heard of any of the websites that were discussed on this Katie Couric show. I was blown away by the advice from both Nev and Marie. I know people who have been burned through Internet love relationships and people who are truly in love. It is really sad to me how someone can prey on a lonely person and take advantage of them. Internet dating is extremely risky. Be careful, it can be a crazy and dark world at times. Look for the light and let your head lead, if a person you are talking to online sounds to good to be true, as Nev said, "They probably are."

Do you have any Internet love stories you would like to share? If so, leave me a note with your contract detail or tell the story in the comment section.

Homeopathy medicine, continued...

Click on the below article link for background information to this blog post:

A couple years ago I incorporated daily vitamins; Dr. Oz says that if you split each vitamin up and take ½ in the AM and the other ½ in the PM this will assure your body is digesting the entire supplement.

Over the past year, I’ve been trying to get a handle on my exercise routine. I used to work out a few days a week for a few months and then I would get lazy for a few months and lose the desire. This, of course, materialized through flab and an increased waistline. Last year I challenged myself to a 66-day exercise challenge and this manifested into a daily workout that I have continued since then. I feel pretty good about my exercise routine today.

Over the last few years, I have tried to get a handle on my food intake. In different intervals, I have cut out sugar, red meat and pop and, of course, I’ve tried specific protein type diets. Something that has stuck with me through this roller coaster of attempts is a fruit smoothie with protein powder as a meal each day. It includes berries, flaxseed, wheat germ, yogurt, ice and almond milk. I’m currently trying a 30-day detox (I’ve recently posted about this), and I’m hopeful it will reset my digestive system and gift me with weight loss. My high weight, the year before last, was 183 and my low weight last year was 157. I did put weight back on after this low (about ½). When I started my detox, I was 169. To date, I’ve lost 3 ½ pounds (after 6 days of detox). These first couple of days were tough but I’ve stuck to the challenge because I realize if I cheat, I’m only cheating myself. I am really hopeful to get a handle on my nutrition in 2013. I realize this will, in turn, gift me with a healthy weight.

Now, something new to my world is the homeopathy medicines, as an alternative to western medicine, I’ve discussed in the article. I am going to try these this year in hopes I can change my medicine cabinet and reflect a more natural approach. I do promote the comfort of living pain free so if they do not work for me, I’ll be the first to admit it. It should be interesting!

Do you have any homeopathy medicines that you use? If so, tell me about them.

Freda Higgins continued the interview. She shared how they coped through this medical trauma. In her words, “Love and faith are the two most powerful factors that I credit to our recovery. Faith that Our Father's presence is in the doctor's who treated Michael and through them, make him well. Prayer also comes along with faith. There were people praying for Michael across the country. When I pray, I have an inner peace and strength because I know He is listening. Michael also has an extraordinary will to live.”

She talked about her book, “It is a true story about my son, Michael's diagnosis of Leukemia. It tells of his courage during treatments, remissions, relapses, an extraordinary cord blood transplant and his joint kidney and pancreas transplant. As Michael struggles to survive, I describe how such an illness affects the entire family; husband and wife, brother, aunts, uncles, grandparents and many friends. No one is spared. It tells of our darkest hour of crisis, family and doctors witness within 48 hours a divine intervention, a life restored, a gift given that will touch many lives for years. This is an amazing story and a testimonial of God's extraordinary power and love. It teaches us to never to loose faith, to never give up or become hopeless, because, after all, our lives are truly in God's hands. Triumphant is a 100 page, soft cover now being sold through my website or through Amazon.com, Ingram's, Barnes & Noble and The Book Nook in Kilmarnock, VA.

This story will no doubt touch your heart. You will probably take away a few tears but my hope is that it will give other families facing this difficult journey the faith and will to conquer any obstacles in their path without despair. Also I hope it will inspire people to search out help groups like the Best Buddy Program at Duke University Hospital. A volunteer is assigned to a child and their parent. They may sit and play games, bring movies to watch or just be there to listen while the parent takes a break to recharge and be better at coping with the stress of it all. Just thirty minutes can be a blessing. I know this first hand because that's what this program meant to me.”

Freda’s advice, “Honestly, it is the fight of your life, because your children are your life. Love them, be by their side, stay strong as a family unit and most importantly pray. There is nothing more powerful than a prayer for your child. It might not be the answer you are hoping for but when you truly place them into the hands of God, He will do what was planned for them.

Over the years, God has moved our family through a journey that we would never have chosen to travel. I can tell you that we were carried by Him through our darkest days. I can also testify to his great wisdom, power and love. Even the doctor's say they witnessed a miracle. God has humbled us through Michael and all of the children we have met and some we have lost along the way; they brought love and compassion to people's lives. Each one of these children will remain with me all the days of my life. We were lifted up to Him in prayer as we felt His very presence upon us. The long-term affects of the radiation has destroyed the pigment in Michael's skin and scarred his tear ducts. His strong sense of self confidence has never quite returned but what I see when I look at him is that same sweet, handsome, kind spirit he has always been: someone who makes me laugh on my worst day. Happily, Michael is attending college at the age of thirty-two, something he has wanted for a long time and enjoying his life.
Every day is a gift, everyday I find myself feeling more blessed, even through the hard times of my life.”

She closed with contact information, “I can be reached by phone: (804) 453-4590 or email: zoey@kaballero.com. I also have a new website:  http://triumphantreflections.com and my Mailing address is:  Freda Higgins @ P.O. Box 373 Reedville, Virginia 22539.”
