The good life, continued...

I am currently in a Case Conceptualization class in my Mental Health Counseling program, which requires us to learn about the different schools of thought. I am a fan of Carl Rogers and his person-centered approach. It doesn’t involve a lot of tools and it is based on authenticity and the belief in human goodness. In this theory it is not about the counselor agreeing with the client because this is not recommended but it is more about the counselor playing a role in the experience of the client; in the sidelines but offering empowering questioning (in a sense more navigational subtle guidance) that enables self-discovery. The premise acknowledges that life comes with problems and sometimes people do make bad choices but through nonjudgmental support and a nurturing environment we can come to accept accountability and learn from our mistakes.  A lot of the discussion focuses on what is right in a person’s life to help reframe a negative mindset to a more positive one in order to manifest a trend of health or the good life.

I love the quote I used by Carl in the article, the good life isn’t a destination, it is a process or trending realm instead of what we most think about it being, more of a destination.

Are you living the good life? Can you answer the questions posed in the article? What are your thoughts about Person-centered therapy? Does it sound like something you think might be helpful to you? I’m curious!

Describe your heart, continued...

I mentioned, in my article, a bit of my own journey of love and the suffering and triumphs I have made my way through. I am happy today and content with first me and then secondly, my relationship. This is the biggest or most critical element to, what I believe to be the success of love; it’s the fact that you are happy with you first because another human-being can’t fix the issues with self. In love relationships, we can’t fix others; we can only engage others in healthy ways and we do this by focusing healing efforts on ourselves. When we are healthy we can control our healthy interface, identify with it and energize it.

Yes, I still have not so happy moments with my partner but this is because of our individualities. We have clashing moments but these are far and few between. It is par for the course of love. If we can’t feel free to express ourselves and be ourselves within a partnership we are not in a healthy relationship.

Self-expression is needed in order for each of us to live an authentic life. Partnership shouldn’t smother this but instead is should help open paths and encourage it to flow freely.

I would love to hear your comments about health and love. What is a healthy relationship to you? Are you in love currently? Tell me about it.

Examiner article

I think we all fall into moments when we lack confidence and, in this low we beat ourselves up. It is really easy to jump onto a negative bandwagon. It takes more effort to be healthy, and to talk nicely; self-talk is the ultimate gauge of self-worth. Although we may fall, at times, into a darkness that tries to take us over, we can still push ourselves to persevere through it. The more we triumph, the more we feel a comfort level with self-love.

On a recent Super Soul Sunday, Author Richard Rohr talks about how hard it is to hold onto joy and how easy it is to continue to victimize, even ourselves, by holding onto resentment.

Really, we must work to live in the here and now and when we can find our way to the present moment, without all of our baggage (judgments from the ego), we have found our place in the world, which is the essence of healthy living.

I am dwelling within this healthy living world more times than not and when I'm there, it feels magnificent. Where are you dwelling?

If your world is full of negativity you have the power to step out of it and renew your inner beliefs in order to emit light and positivity because change truly starts within. Rescript is a fundamental start!

Soothe with reflexology

I love the concept of reflexology because it is something you can do on the go or at work, it can be done without the help of another person and it is not complicated. I am going to try to start doing this a few times a week to see if this technique will make me feel healthier. It certainly doesn’t hurt to massage my own hands and if it can make me feel less achy, why not try it?

I DVR Dr. Oz everyday and then I eventually watch his shows more timely to my schedule while I’m working on homework, cleaning etc.

Today I awoke after a restless night’s sleep with what feels like a knot in the crease of my left shoulder blade towards the center of my back. I must have slept on it funny. This article is timely for me. I have a busy day at my internship but, for sure, I will be working my hands in an effort to gain relief.

Wabi sabi, continued...

What are the messy parts in your life? Do you even admit that you have any? I believe that most of our lives are messy although this condition is not something we value, but instead it is something we fight. How do you think it would feel to release the weight of this battle from your psyche? Do you think your world would fall apart without your worrying-self central to it or maybe the messiness, in this new "embracing" mindset, would begin to bond the broken pieces together and things would better flow and fit together.

I happen to believe in the latter thought.

There is something to a natural flaw. I’ve said before, to be human is to be flawed and the flaws we reflect are naturally beautiful. They make us unique.

I’m hoping that you too can start to appreciate the story of an experience and how this experience is reflective in not only people but in all that surrounds us. Perhaps, this article will give you a reason to sit for a moment and to take a break. Consider all that you do and all that impacts you and choose to exert your energy wisely. It is a really precious commodity!

What are your thoughts about Wabi Sabi? Is it a new concept to you like it is to me?

Drop me a note and let’s talk about it. For me, Wabi Sabi is going to be a new affirmation I will repeat when I feel the pull of perfection in my world!
