I think we go through bad relationships to help us mature and educate us to find our way to our soul mate. The bad ones also gift us with a new found appreciation for the "real and lifetime" love of our lives! I'm fortunate to have finally found the guy who lifts my spirit and makes me feel like I can soar through life happy. He is my true support. Am I saying I couldn't survive without him, NO. I'm a survivor and I can find my way through anything. I'm saying this person is someone who I want to share the rest of my life with, someone who I trust my darkest secrets to and someone who makes me feels safe when he wraps his arms around me; my soul mate! I feel truly blessed for our relationship. How do you feel about yours?
My blog, Inspirations by Kathryn J. Raths includes posts from 2009 to 2016 that were an extension of my Healthy Living Examiner column which has been closed. However, the articles are being revamped as an extension of Kathryn J. Raths.com, which is in the making! The image is a self-portrait I drew in oil pastels; the woods gift me a deep connection with nature and safety!

My story is not as dramatic as the article portrays but, at one time, I was infatuated with a guy in high school although he really didn't know I existed. I watched him from a far for several years until he graduated. I think he was 2 years ahead of me. At that time, I would never had approached a guy. At the end of my senior year I ran into this person at a graduation party and we shared our first kiss. We had been drinking so when I wasn't "knocked off my feet" by the moment, I thought maybe I just wasn't myself because of the alcohol. A few days later we ended up going to Cedar Point for a day that I thought would be fun. To my surprise, I couldn't get away from him quick enough. I felt like I was carrying someone on my back as we waited in long lines under the hot sun. He was really clingy way to early in the relationship for me. Needless to say, it was our last date. If I had only left the crush alone I wouldn't have ruined my thoughts of bliss about him! I was really disappointed when I realized I had made him much more than he was in real life. It wasn't even his fault! Can you share any 2nd chance reunions with me? I would love to hear about some that have worked out. I am a hopeless romantic!

A bereavement story of both sadness and triumph, continued...

I am working with Ed Gray on a community project bringing Rev. Penny Jones' vision "The HeARTworks Project" to life. Both Ed & I have a similar story in that we both have discovered the therapeutic benefits of writing. He has been through a lot and instead of hiding under the covers and shutting down his life, he uses his story to help others. In Ed's book, The Essence of Grieving, he discusses the first date he went on "and his feelings of cheating" although his wife had passed; it is really interesting. He has a girlfriend today who is a widow which Ed appreciates. They can both understand each other's pain. I'm sure, his wife, is so happy his heart is singing again instead of aching. I wish everyone could find as Cher put it, "Life after Love." I'm grateful for my new friendship with Ed. Pick up a copy of his book, especially if you are a hopeless romantic, it will tug at the strings of your heart!

I guess I really didn't realize the benefits of journaling until I wrote my first book, What Can I Say When Words Escape Me, being present in times of sorrow. I can validate that it really did give me an outlet for all of the crazy feelings that rushed in with the loss of my Father and job in 2008. I didn't really think about how it helped me until I went to a taping at Public Television with Dr. Stearns. She gave me the "light-bulb" moment offering the scientific spin on this outlet. She also noted that in studies of groups equally matched, the group that journaled were able to get a job much quicker than the group that didn't. The stat was pretty high. Why, because those who journaled worked through their feelings as apposed to the other group who had bottled their emotions up inside to fester. This type of psyche actually affects your day to day interface. What is your outlet to clear your mind? Share your thoughts with me, I would love to hear more ideas!

Feel love in your heart, continued...

I once read you are most creative or inspired just as you awake in the morning. You know, it is the time between your sleeping self and that big stretch and wide eyed self. After I stumbled on this tid-bit of information, I embraced the concept. As I roll over and wake from my deep sleep each morning, I think of and honor my feelings of gratitude, wishful thinking and prayer for inspiration which helps me to push forward in a positive manner. Call me crazy but I believe it has helped me. Sure, I still have bad events or moments in my life but they seem to come fewer and farther in between. I used to pray at night before I fell to sleep dozing off with good intention. Now I'm not only ending my days with good thoughts but I'm also embracing positivity in my early waking moments, setting the stage for a great day. I still have a choice and control how the day will shape itself but, for sure, I'm starting off in the right place; with love in my heart! Try it and let me know if it helps you also.
